Developing an energy management plan is becoming more and more required due to environmental concerns, economical challenges with energy supply and reliability and the need to be globally competitive, the thing that is driving industrial, commercial and residential markets to change the way energy use and energy costs are viewed.
Referring to ISO 50001- the framework that helps enterprises manage their energy systems and have better planning for saving energy, reducing pollution and costs- the estimates for these standards can lead to reducing global energy consumption by 60 percent.
In order to ensure compliance with these global initiatives and to measure progress and forecast future trends, it is necessary to have a rigorous energy metering and monitoring plan. Therefore, a successful energy management action plan should start with a metering system that is capable of achieving the following main goals:
1- To allow users to monitor energy consumption (water, gas, electricity) trends and correct faults efficiently.
2- To allow users to track consumption and price trends over a sufficient period of time and to be capable of forecasting future consumption and price data for setting conservation targets.
3- To have the capacity to present information in a meaningful way that will allow users to identify and modify their own energy consumption behaviour and be involved in the energy conservation process.
4- To display results from energy saving initiatives, and help to identify new areas where energy savings measures could be implemented.
Carlo Gavazzi is one of the first multinational companies to understand the great need for innovative energy management solutions and come up with a comprehensive series of instruments to measure, analyze, understand and predict the energy consumption in order to facilitate savings in terms of money and energy resources.
Recently, Carlo Gavazzi introduced a new web-server based solution for monitoring small to medium size installations, the VMU-C EM system. The system can gather data from energy meters, power analyzers and the VMU series I/O modules.
The VMU-C EM system is considered an evolution in the field of Energy Management. The integrated web-server unit is capable of monitoring up to 32 meters, in addition to managing numerous types of data:
- Energy (kWh,kvarh) and instantaneous variable data (V,A,W,var,VA,PF,HZ,THD) with set points and data logger.
- Temperature, analogue and pulse rate inputs with scaling capability.
- Digital input status.
- Alarms via Web, email or SMS.
- Dual tariff.
- Reports in Excel compatible format.
All these data are also available via:
- Web-srufing.
- HTTP on demand polling.
- FTP scheduled data pushing.
- Modbus/TCP (both master and slave function capabilities)
- Carlo Gavazzi’s data push protocol in combination with VMU-Y EM and EM2 server data aggregation solutions.
- 3G or 4G internet capability.
